Although there is not a golf course located directly at Gamlebyen Hotell Fredrikstad, the Gamle Fredrikstad Golf Club is only 700 meters (less than a half mile) away. Opened in 2012, this 18-hole links course was designed by Norwegian golf course architect Paal Midtvaage and features plenty of challenges inspired by storied courses like Scotland’s Kingsbarns Links, such as tricky green areas and lots of water. Wind is also near constant, resulting in strategic changes to account for its direction and strength. Or for those short on time, a 9-hole, par-3 course can be played.

There are also a couple of alternatives for guests looking for a more playful golf activity that the whole family will love. A 12-hole miniature golf course designed to look like a pint-sized version of the fortified town—complete with the Vindebroen footbridge, cannons, historic Old Town buildings, and the Kongsten Fortress—challenges young and old alike. A soccer (football) golf course is also available.
