- Explore the ancient Nes Kirke. This renowned local landmark was constructed in the cruciform design around the year 1250. Interestingly, the church functioned as a polling station for the Norwegian Constituent Assembly in 1814, which eventually wrote the Constitution of Norway. Nes Kirke is still used today as a parish church.
- Visit the Domkirkeodden, which offers wonderful insight into the region’s heritage—from the Vikings right up to the 20th century. One of Norway’s largest medieval museums, the entire facility is centered around a collection of some 60 buildings that date back centuries. The main historic structure that the museum has preserved are the encased ruins of a destroyed church from the Middle Ages.
- See the many fascinating exhibits at the Norsk jernbanemuseum (Norwegian Railway Museum.) This terrific facility functions as the national railway museum of Norway and showcases a wealth of prominent locomotives from the country’s past as such. Perhaps the greatest vehicle on display is the Norwegian Royal Train—the official train carriage used by the Norwegian Royal Family!
