Considered the “Hollywood North,” many early films were shot at Lake Louise with stars such as John Barrymore, Betty Grable, and Carmen Miranda. Stars also visited in droves including Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe, and Superman himself, Christopher Reeve. Due to the rise in popularity of mountain climbing, people began to holiday at Lake Louise around this time and while they were there they would horseback ride, stargaze, and more. As part of Alberta’s Banff National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is globally recognized for its progressive environmental stewardship and responsibility. The hotel had humble beginnings as a base for outdoor enthusiasts over 100 years ago, and has become the most well-known year-round mountain resort in Canada.
