Experience the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s two championship Pete Dye courses: Mystic Rock and Shepherd’s Rock.

The Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania, opened in 1968 and it was inducted into Historic Hotels of America in 2018. But championship-caliber golf came to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort several decades later during the 1990s. The Mystic Rock course, the dream of Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s founder, Joseph Hardy, was specifically brought to life in 1995 by prominent designer Pete Dye and today it is one of the country’s finest golf courses. An inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Dye himself created many iconic golf courses in his lifetime, including the TPC Sawgrass, Whistling Straits, and The Ocean Course.

Perched atop the Pennsylvania Allegheny Mountains, Mystic Rock spans acres of the scenic Laurel Highlands, offering players championship-level golf in a spectacular setting. Golf architect Tim Liddy partnered with Pete Dye — before Dye's passing in 2020— with designs for an impressive and extensive bunker renovation to Mystic Rock, which was completed in July 2021. The transformation to upgrade the bunkers, playing surfaces, and tee boxes solidifies Mystic Rock as one of the premiere mountain courses in the country.

Shepherd’s Rock, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s second Pete Dye-designed course, which opened in 2017, offers an extraordinary golf experience in a standout setting. The 7,151-yard Shepherd’s Rock course stretches across the glorious Pennsylvania Allegheny Mountains and is brilliantly designed to be both fun and challenging for players, making it the perfect companion to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s PGA Tour-tested Mystic Rock. The course has specifically played host to the Pennsylvania Classic, which was organized by Joseph Hardy’s company, 84 Lumber. Perhaps the greatest moment in tournament history was when a teenage Michelle Wie participated at the invitation of Hardy himself in 2006. While Wie shot 14 over par, her appearance helped jumpstart her celebrated professional career. The two courses are open to overnight guests, golf members, and all-access members. But the Lodge at Nemacolin also offers practice facilities, a driving range, chipping area, and putting green at the celebrated Nemacolin Golf Academy. With four specialized bays, space to accommodate dining and private groups of 60, upscale and modern decor with leather seating and walls of windows, some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and a team that can deliver magic for every golfer, the new and upscale Golf Academy at Nemacolin is the place for guests to elevate their game to a whole new level.
