- Explore 500 miles of dirt roads at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The state park allows visitors to experience the wonders of California nature. The views and wildlife in the area are some of the most sought-after image shots in the country. The park features washes, wildflowers, cacti, palm groves and more. The wildlife spotted are golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer, bighorn sheep, chuckwallas, and the red diamond rattlesnake. The park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza who was also one of the founding fathers of Spanish California. Guests can learn more about his legacy and the park itself at the visitor center.
- Drive through Galleta Meadows Estate, where you’ll see a T-Rex, or a mythological creature emerge from the flat desert landscape. Galleta Meadows Estate is home to the talented Ricardo Breceda, a local sculptor/artist that creates gigantic sculptures of folk creatures. Breceda is known as an accidental artist that started his metal sculptures as a hobby but quickly became recognized for his work. The Galleta Meadows Estate is a free-standing art gallery that highlights many of Ricardo Breceda’s mythological fantasies turned into a reality for all to see. Guests can view a 350-foot-long sea serpent coming out of the sand, pre-historic elephants, saber-tooth tigers prowling the desert and more.
- Visit the Borrego Art Institute (BAI) that exhibits talented artists in the area and is considered an architectural gem. BAI features art in many different forms such as gardening, painting, and photography. The institute attracts people from around the world to not only experience but create different forms of art. BAI features an off-campus pottery studio where guests can participate in classes and create a piece of art to commemorate their experience. There are also classes for kids to enjoy and learn the basics of art and spend a few hours with talented teachers learning about creating and expressing themselves through art.
