Watch Grandeur, Grit and Glory Since 1847: A Tribute to the History of the Grand Hotel, which is presented daily at 3:45 p.m. The viewing begins with a procession from the main lobby fireplace and culminates with the Civil War-replica cannon firing on the edge of Mobile Bay at Cannon Park.

Marvel at monarch butterflies on their annual stopover at the Grand Hotel. During October and November, these winged visitors stop for a respite during their yearly migration south, building up strength for their journey across the Gulf of Mexico on nectar from the resort's beautifully manicured gardens.

Enjoy a game of championship croquet on the Lakewood Club croquet lawns. Truly a Grand Hotel tradition, croquet has been offered at the resort since the mid-1940s. Although the pro shop sells mallets and croquet apparel, complimentary croquet mallets are also on offer for players to use. Croquet courts can be reserved in 90-minute slots, and weekly clinics are also available.

Take advantage of the resort's waterfront setting. Kids will love feeding the Grand Hotel's resident ducks at the lagoon—duck food is available at the front desk. Fishing in Mobile Bay can be enjoyed from the resort's Grand Pier, with cane poles and bait provided by the hotel's recreation team. Or, for those hoping to get out on the water, kayaks are available on a seasonal basis.
