Serving some of the finest food in the entire city, the Station Grille at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel is a historic dining setting. Fred Harvey opened this iconic restaurant to provide a more efficient railroad dining experience. Travelers could order from the restaurant's menu while still on board the trains, where the order was then wired to the restaurant manager. Once passengers arrived at Union Station, they could sit down, enjoy a meal, and be on their way with as little time and hassle as possible.
The most essential part of Fred Harvey’s success, as well as the most popular feature of his restaurants were the Harvey Girls, who greeted and tended to patrons with classic Midwestern hospitality. The movie The “Harvey Girls” with Judy Garland was inspired by this historic restaurant.
Today, the Station Grille remains an integral part of the Union Station's heritage, serving refined cuisine for guests and travelers alike.
