Originally a modest guesthouse built in a classic Swiss style, the Kvikne family has owned and managed Kviknes Hotel for over 135 years. As the first known hotel in the Sognefjord, Kviknes Hotel is a fine example of traditional Norwegian hospitality. Once a small Swiss-style inn, the location has since grown into a marvelous vacation getaway that features hundreds of glorious accommodations. Numerous international dignitaries have frequented the location too, such as British Prime Minister Clement Atlee and the Japanese Imperial Family. Kviknes Hotel is located in Balestrand, and is one of the most distinguished hotels in the Nordic countries. The hotel and the greater community of Balestrand reside in the Sognefjord, which UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site. The journey to Kviknes Hotel is often an experience in itself. Kviknes Hotel recommends the experience with Fjord1’s express boat from Bergen and into the Sognefjord. There are departures twice daily and the journey to Balestrand takes about 4 hours.
