• Explore two historically significant battle sites. Fort William Henry, on the southern end of Lake George, was surrendered by the British to the French in 1757 during the French and Indian War, and is central to the plot of "The Last of the Mohicans." Fort Ticonderoga, on Lake Champlain, played a strategic role in 18th-century conflicts between the French and British and today offers guided tours, weapons demonstrations, boat cruises, and battle re-enactments.

• Take in the history of the Lake George area at the Bolton Historical Museum, housed in a repurposed 1890 church. The museum features regional artificats and memorabilia as well as artwork from and inspired by the area's evolution and vistas.
