• Take a short walk to The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea to gaze upon Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. In 1922, Sister Louis Gabriel and her fellow nuns created the grotto. On the day that the shrine was dedicated, Sister Gabriel blessed the grotto and said that as long as the grotto stood, “Key West would never experience the full brunt of a hurricane.”
