Over the years, the French Lick Springs Hotel developed a strong reputation for being haunted. Staff in the past have attested to hearing the sounds of disembodied voices throughout the halls, as well as receiving mysterious phone calls from empty guestrooms. Yet, the most enduring tales related to the spirit of Thomas Taggart himself. Stories abound of how Taggart still occupies the grounds due to his resolute devotion to the resort. For instance, guests and employees alike have reported smelling phantom cigar tobacco as if Taggart was standing nearby. There have also been sightings of a shadowy apparition near the service elevator that many believe to be Thomas Taggart himself!
