Constructed in 1700, the Høyevarde lighthouse has been a landmark guiding sailors along the Karmsund strait for centuries. Previously known as the “Nordvegen” (or the North Passage), the current iteration of the lighthouse is actually some 150 years younger. The grounds consisted of the central lightkeeper’s house, as well as a customs building, a boathouse, a warehouse, and a wood-fired bakery. Today, Høyevarde Fyrhotell offers spectacular accommodations and facilities to experience within a peaceful setting. Located just some 20 minutes from Haugesund, the hotel is close to many significant cultural sights, including a Bronze Age grave created in 1500 B.C.
