The history of the DoubleTree by Hilton Dundee originates with a sprawling industrial complex named the Bullionfield Paper Mills and its owner, David Watson. The massive mill emerged when the city of Dundee was turning into a major commercial center. Throughout the 19th century, factories sprung up across the area at a rapid pace. Some of these new industries manufactured paper, including the Bullionfield Paper Mills. David Watson was its supervisor for many years, who later purchased the whole business for himself and quickly became incredibly wealthy. With his riches, Watson constructed a beautiful, Baronial-style manor to the north of Bullionfield. Known as the Greystane House, Watson and his wife, Hannah Parker, eagerly moved into their new home as soon as it was finished in 1870. The Greystane House remained the property of the Watson family for some time thereafter, until it passed onto new owners during the 20th century. The building then became a hotel, which ran under different names, such as the Swallow and the Landmark. Hilton Hotels now operates this marvelous structure as the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dundee. Nestled within the charming knolls of historic Angus County, Dundee features plenty of cultural destinations that epitomize Scotland’s heritage. World-famous golf courses abound around the city, as do ancient villages and castles. Many visitors trek up the awe-inspiring Glen Cova to see the region’s splendid fauna and flora. The lovely Firth of Tay flows along Dundee’s southern border, which grants outstanding views of the North Sea and the countless ships that emerge from it every day. The city itself also possesses an innumerable array of places to visit that will excite the imagination. Just a short drive away from the hotel resides the exhilarating Camperdown Country Park and its stately manor, wildlife center, and fairway. Many more cultural institutions await to be discovered further into town, such as the Dundee Repertory Theatre, a famous playhouse in operation since the early 1900s. Dozens of museums proliferate in Dundee too, like the McManus Art Gallery and Museum, Discovery Point, and the brand-new V&A Museum. There is no better place to begin a journey into Scotland than the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dundee.
