The Virginian Hotel Celebrates Five Years of Elegance, Excellence
By Rachael Smith
Located on the corner of 8th and Church streets in downtown Lynchburg, The Virginian Hotel has become a testament to timeless elegance and exceptional hospitality over the past five years since its reopening.
After an extensive four-year, $30 million renovation, The Virginian Hotel officially opened its doors on May 15, 2018, after developers Blair Godsey and George Stanley restored the property.
The historic structure was first opened as a luxury hotel in 1913 and has seen several uses, including as a dormitory for students of Lynchburg Baptist College, which now is Liberty University; apartments; and low-income housing.
The hotel opened the weekend before Liberty University's graduation.
“I commend the unwavering vision and tenacity of George Stanley and Blair Godsey, who meticulously restored this cherished gem,” Marjette Upshur, director of Economic Development and Tourism, said. “Their dedication and attention to detail have breathed new life into this iconic establishment, preserving its rich history while infusing it with modern amenities to be enjoyed by all of our citizens and visitors, which was not always the case in the past. Countless memories have been created within these walls, and thanks to prudent investments and exceptional management, we can eagerly anticipate the creation of many more in the years to come.”
