• Drive to and explore Franconia Notch and the surrounding state park, which were home to the granite rock formation dubbed The Old Man of the Mountain, which is still New Hampshire’s state emblem even after the rock face’s collapse in 2003. While at the Notch, trek through the famous Flume Gorge or take a ride on the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, an 80-passenger cable car that climbs to the 4,000-foot summit of Cannon Mountain, where visitors can view the landscape of four states.

• Steam to the top of Mount Washington, the tallest mountain in New Hampshire, via the historic Cog Railway, which has been in operation for more than 150 years. The three-hour roundtrip journey rewards visitors with views on a clear day of Maine, Vermont, and Canada.

• Take in the charms of the many quaint New England villages near the resort, including the town of Littleton, which offers abundant shopping and dining and is home to Chutters, a candy store that touts a Guinness Book of World Records certification for having the world’s longest candy counter (112 feet in 3 rows).
