• Explore the Castel dell’Ovo nearby in the Gulf of Naples. This outstanding structure is the most historic castle in the city, having been built by the Normans in the 1100s. It even served as the royal seat for the Kings of Sicily throughout most of the following century.
• Travel to the Catacombe di San Gennaro. Dating back to the 2nd century, the catacombs are a winding labyrinth of beautiful crypts, vestibules, and passageways. Many ancient frescos adorn the walls of the Catacombe di San Gennaro, including the first known portrait of Saint Januarius.
