Like many downtown hotels, The Ambassador Hotel has experienced its share of prosperity and blight. At the time of its opening in 1928, the hotel was considered one of the city’s premier luxury hotels with the very latest in contemporary amenities and design. However, as the west end of Milwaukee fell out of favor, the Ambassador itself fell into decline. Over the next several decades, its former glory was hidden under insensitive “updates” and structural modifications, and many of its “guests” were of ill repute. An intensive, ten-year effort has refurbished the hotel and served as a catalyst in the rebirth of the surrounding neighborhood. The Ambassador Hotel’s bold rooftop sign once again beckons guests to enjoy a true Milwaukee legend. 1927 Single/Double: $109-$249
